Michael Foxworth was a band director in Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia for 44 years. He has received degrees from Campbell University (B.M.E.) and Virginia Commonwealth University (M.M.E.) During his tenure in various middle and high schools in all three states, Foxworth’s bands have received consistent Superior rating in Marching, Jazz and Concert Performance.
Foxworth has been very active in the State Band Directors Association and served on the executive board of the South Carolina Band Directors Association from 1998-2009. During this period, he was the first Jazz Committee Chairman and also served as President from 2005-2007.
Other work-related experiences for Foxworth have been: Music Praxis National Advisory and Test Development Standing Committee, National Board for Professional Teaching Standard Assessor, Georgia GACE Committee for new teacher certification, SC State Board of Education Textbook Adoption Committee, American Music Abroad Tours Conductor, CLAWS and Fiesta-Val adjudicator and various clinician experiences. In 1986 he was named Marion School District One Teacher of the year and in 2017 he was inducted into the South Carolina Band Directors Association Hall of Fame.
Foxworth’s professional affiliations include: National Association for Music Education, South Carolina Music Educators Association, National Band Association, National Education Association, American School Band Directors Association, Modern Music Masters International Music Honor Society and Phi Beta Mu National Bandmasters Fraternity.
Foxworth retired from teaching in South Carolina in 2009 after 28 years but taught an additional six years at Etowah High School in Woodstock, Georgia. In 2019, they moved back to South Carolina.
He and his wife, Robin, presently reside in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
